غزة – أصدر الأسير السابق، الباحث المختص بشؤون الأسرى، مدير دائرة الإحصاء بوزارة الأسرى والمحررين عبد الناصر عوني فروانة، يوم 24 تشرين الثاني، تقريراً إحصائيا شاملاً، هو عبارة عن ورقة عمل مقدمة للمؤتمر الدولي للأسرى، ستترجم وستوزع خلال المؤتمر بعد تعذر خروجه من غزة ومشاركته المباشرة في أعمال المؤتمر الذي تنظمه وزارة الأسرى والمحررين بمشاركة 40 شخصية دولية والعديد من المؤسسات الفاعلة والناشطة في مجال حقوق الإنسان والأسرى، والذي سيبدأ أعماله اليوم الثلاثاء (24-11) في مدينة أريحا ويستمر لمدة ثلاثة أيام، سيتم خلالها تسليط الضوء على مجمل الانتهاكات التي يتعرض لها الأسرى في سجون الإحتلال الإسرائيلي.

وأظهر التقرير بأن قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي اعتقلت منذ العام 1967 ولغاية اليوم قرابة (750) ألف مواطن بينهم (12) آلف مواطنة وعشرات الآلاف من الأطفال. مبيناً إلى أن من بين هؤلاء المعتقلين يوجد (69) ألف حالة اعتقال سُجلت منذ بدء انتفاضة الأقصى في سبتمبر 2000، منهم (850 مواطنة) و(7800) طفلاً.

There is growing frustration, inside and outside the United States, with the Obama administration primarily because of its failure to bring about any measurable change in US policy, especially in the Middle East. Hopes are continuously raised, but have yet to be fulfilled.

THESE DAYS mark the 5th anniversary of the murder of Yasser Arafat, and bring back to me our last conversation in his Ramallah compound, a few weeks before his death. It was he who brought up the idea of a threefold federation – Israel, Palestine and Jordan. “And perhaps Lebanon, too. Why not?” – the same as he did at our very first meeting, in Beirut, July 1982, in the middle of the battle. He mentioned the term Benelux – the pact between Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg that predated the European Union.

Lately, the term “federation” has come into fashion again. Some people believe that it can serve as a kind of compromise between the “Two-State Solution”, now a world-wide consensus, and the “One-State Solution” that is popular in some radical circles. “Federation” sounds like a miracle: there will be both “two states for two peoples” and a single entity. Two in one, one in two.
